CDBG Funds Add Value In Shoreline, Wash.

Shoreline, Wash., is a city of
54,000 residents just outside of
Seattle that strives to maintain
a high quality community life.
According to a 2010 citizen
satisfaction survey, 95 percent
of respondents rated Shoreline
as “an excellent or good place to
live” and 84 percent “felt their
quality of life had improved
or stayed the same since they
moved” to the area.

Shoreline, Wash., has used Community Development Block Grant money to
boost its affordable housing efforts, including working with the King County
Housing Authority to upgrade a building for low-income seniors.

Cities Awarded Scholarships to Attend Leadership
Academy on Economic Competitiveness
NLC’s Center for Research and
Innovation is pleased to announce that
100 local officials and other econom-
ic stakeholders from nearly 50 com-
munities across the country have been
competitively selected to participate
in the Leadership Academy on Local
Economic Competitiveness in a Global
Era. The academy, co-hosted with the
Trade Development Alliance of Greater
Seattle, will be held in Seattle April
19-21.
Through the competitive applica-
tion process, each attendee will receive
a scholarship valued at approximately
$500. Participants hail from a geograph-
ically and population diverse group of
cities.
