NLC Community and Economic Development
Committee Focuses on Economic Growth
by Mike Wallace
NLC’s Community and
Economic Development (CED)
Steering Committee continued
to focus on programs, practices
and incentives that promote
local economic growth and
job creation during its spring
meeting May 19-21 in Ventura,
Calif.
Members of NLC’s Community and Economic Development Steering Committee met in Ventura, Calif., to discuss local
economic growth and programs such as the Community Development Block Grant.
to reduce some of those vul-
nerabilities in future funding
battles.
The committee also dis-
cussed persistent regulatory
challenges to local economic
growth.
As a result, the commit-
tee asked Chairman Lopez to
appoint a small subset of CED
members and their city staff to
study and recommend action
on duplicative and burdensome
regulatory requirements that
delay community development
and impair job creation.
