NBC-LEO Appoints City Cultural Diversity Awards Judges
The National Black Caucus of Local Elected
Officials (NBC-LEO) has announced the judges for
the 2012 City Cultural Diversity Awards.
This year, the City Cultural Diversity Awards
Program Committee will be chaired by NBC-LEO
President-Elect Ulysses Addison, councilmember,
Baton Rouge, La.
“This awards program provides a wonderful forum
each year for learning about the innovative ideas that
cities across the country are implementing to pro-
mote cultural diversity,” said Addison. “Our panel of
judges is peerless, and truly represents all the people
of America. I invite our member cities to submit their
programs and concepts to us, as in doing so, they will
be sharing with cities everywhere and contributing in a
purposeful way to the goal of achieving true diversity.”
The judges from NBC-LEO are Past President
Audwin Samuel, councilmember, Beaumont, Texas;
NBC-LEO Secretary Lavonta Williams, councilmem-
ber, Wichita, Kan.; and one of the inaugural NBC-
LEO Foundation Fellows, David Howard, council-
member, Charlotte, N.C.
Guest judges are represented from the NLC constit-
uency groups — Women in Municipal Government
(WIMG); Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender
Local Officials (GLBTLO); Asian Pacific American
Municipal Officials (APAMO); and Hispanic Elected
Local Officials (HELO).
They are Mary Dorothy “Dot” LaMarche, vice-
mayor, Farragut, Tenn. (WIMG); Greg Pettis, council-
member, Cathedral City, Calif. (GLBTLO); APAMO
President Gilbert Wong, mayor, Cupertino, Calif.; and
HELO Immediate Past President Sergio Rodriguez,
